Ellery Hollingsworth is an American snowboarder. Apparently, she is the first female to ever land a 1080. She was awarded 2006 “Rookie of the Year” by the judges at the 24th Annual U.S. Open of Snowboarding Championships in Vermont.
Ellery Hollingsworth wrote on Twitter on January 16, “Unfortunately, I will not be competing in the last Olympic qualifiers due to a car accident. Wishing all my pals good luck.” It’s uncertain if she will attend the 2014 Olympics.
Ellery Hollingsworth began snowboarding when she was six years old at Vermont’s Bromley Mountain. She said, “My brothers had been snowboarding for a few years and looking up to them, I always wanted to do what they were doing.” She said in a separate interview, “I think I’m tougher now because let’s just say they weren’t gentle. I still always go to them for advice, and they’ll tell me straight up instead of trying not to hurt my feelings.”
She is a graduate of the Stratton Mountain School where she trained to be a professional snowboarder. “The hardest part was convincing my parents, because they believe academics hold the most importance.”
When asked what made her unique, Ellery Hollingsworth said, “There aren’t many girls that do slope, pipe and QP. I do them all and it’s so fun. Hopefully more women start to compete in all, it’s a good time.”
She called her mom the most influential person in her life “because she has always been there for me and she is just an amazing person, and I really look up to her.” She said her family was the most valuable thing in her life. “The unconditional support is key, I owe them for sure.”
Burton, Nike, Oakley and Gatorade have sponsored her.
Something on her bucket list is to be in a flash mob. Her favorite books are “The Little Princes" and "The Hunger Games." Aside from snowboarding, she enjoys traveling, surfing and spending time in Southern California. She said, “I love bonfires during Thanksgiving with my cousins. I love cooking soup with my Momma in Vermont. I love skydiving and reading…not at the same time. And I really, really love Newfoundland dogs.”

Ellery Hollingsworth also runs, and plays soccer and tennis. She described herself: “When I first meet someone I might come off a bit quiet, but after I spend some time with a person I’m really outgoing and I love neck-warmers.” Her career goals are to “graduate from college, and do something to help people. Everyone should. That’s what makes the world work – kindness.”
Ellery Hollingsworth is single and currently resides in Salt Lake City, UT.
