Born in Culver City, California to John Drew Barrymore and Jaid, an aspiring actress, Drew Blyth Barrymore is an actress and descendant of the Barrymore family of actors.
She is a mix of Hungarian, English and Irish ancestry. Her parents divorced when Drew was nine.
Drew Barrymore landed her first role in a dog food commercial when she was nine, and made her film debut in "Altered States," but it was her role as Gertie in "E.T. But Drew Barrymore became famous for more than just acting. As a child and teen, she had drug and alcohol problems and attempted suicide when she was 14. She went to rehab and later wrote a book, "Little Girl Lost."

She hates celebrity, though. She told The Guardian, "When I started out I was an actor. And now when someone calls me a celebrity, I want to shoot them. I want to go, thank you for reducing me " I've worked for 35 years, I've killed myself to be established as someone who is responsible, reliable and accountable in my field of work, yet you're calling me a name of someone who basically got famous for no reason. It's the worst name on the planet. I hate it. And people say it all the time.I'm an actor. I'm a producer. I'm a director. I'm a toad. I'm roadkill. I'm anything but a celebrity."
