Dichen Lachman was born on February 22, 1982 in Kathmandu, Nepal, where she lived for the first seven years of her life before moving to Adelaide, Australia with her family. Her mother is of Tibetan descent, while her father's origins lied in Australia (with a German heritage). Dichen's educational history is long and storied, but consisted of attending West Lakes Primary School, Gilles Street Primary School, Norwood Morialta High School, St. Mary's College, Annesley College and the University of Adelaide.

Dichen eventually left the University of Adelaide in order to move to Sydney, Australia once she decided to be an actress. While studying at the Lynette Sheldon Actors Studio in Sydney, she was cast in a commercial for Wanadoo which was shot in Australia, but aired in the U.K. From here, Dichen auditioned for the role of Elle Robinson on the popular Australian soap opera, "Neighbours." While she didn't get the part, producers enjoyed her so much that they decided to create the nurse character, Katya Kinski, just for her. The success of her to year stint on the series was enough for her to decide to move to Los Angeles to further her career.

Although she starred in the film, "Aquamarine" in 2006 whle still working on "Neighbours," it wasn't until Dichen was cast on the FOX series, "Dollhouse," that she started to gain much needed popularity as an actress in the U.S. From here, she was cast in a number of roles on series such as "Hawaii Five-0," "The League," and the short-lived series, "Last Resort" from "The Shield" creator, Shawn Ryan. By 2014, she even played the dual role of producer/actor for the first time on the film, "Lust for Love."
