Demetria Devonne “Demi” Lovato is an American singer-songwriter, musician and actress probably best known for her role on “The X Factor.”
Demi Lovato is a mix of English, Mexican, Irish and Italian ancestry. She said, “Latina culture means warm family gatherings, special stories and a bond that I love to experience…it makes me proud of my culture and my ethnicity.” Her mother is also a former Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader.
Though born in New Mexico, Demi Lovato was raised in Dallas, Texas. At the age of seven, she began her acting career on the kids’ series “Barney & Friends.” She said she was bullied so badly, she requested a home-schooled education. She said, “Everyone signed a petition that said, ‘We all hate Demi Lovato.” She has since become a spokesperson for the anti-bullying organization PACER.

But it was probably Demi Lovato’s struggles with bulimia, cutting and drug abuse that got her the most press. In 2010, she withdrew from the Jonas Brothers Live in Concert tour to enter a treatment facility. She supposedly punched another back-up singer. Demi later said she had “basically a nervous breakdown” and was diagnosed with bipolar disorder.
That same year, Demi Lovato left the show “Sonny with a Chance” to focus on her recovery. “I don’t think going back to ‘Sonny’ would be healthy for my recovery…Being in front a camera would make me nervous.”
Demi Lovato has a tattoo on her left wrist that says “Stay.” On her right hand is the word “Strong.” She had them written so that every time she felt like cutting herself it would remind her to stay strong.
In 2012, she was hired as a judge for the second season of the American “The X Factor" and earned a reported million dollar salary.
Demi Lovato said, “Never be ashamed of what you feel. You have the right to feel any emotion that you want, and to do what makes you happy. That’s my life motto.”
She is set to release her first-ever eBook.
