Cristin Milioti is an actress and singer probably best known for her role on “How I Met Your Mother” (in which she played the role of The Mother) and a Grammy Award for her performance in the Broadway musical “Once.” She is set to appear on the NBC comedy pilot “A to Z.”
Cristin Milioti is of Greek ancestry. In 2003, she graduated from Cherry Hill High School East. She said, “I was always in bands.” She also did plays, but “I think singing was always what I loved most of all. I would say if I was any type of nerd, it was probably a band nerd.”
Cristin Milioti took acting classes at New York University but dropped out her freshman year. She signed with an agent, got sent on auditions and booked a job right away. She said, “It was a lot of luck right off the bat, to the point where I was like, ‘This is easy! And also, you can make a ton of money.’ And then a year into it I was like, ‘Oh, I see, that’s not true.’ But I’ve been very lucky I’ve never had to have another job.”
In 2012, Cristin Milioti earned a Tony Award nomination for her role in the Broadway musical “Once." (For that same role, she had to learn to play the piano). She also learned how to play the bass for her role on “How I Met Your Mother.”
She has appeared in “The Wolf of Wall Street,” “Nurse Jackie” and “The Sopranos,” among other projects. As for her role in “The Wolf of Wall Street,” she said, “It’s a very fun role and I’m unrecognizable. I have a huge perm, acrylic tips, I’m spray-tanned and have a thick Queens accent.”
Cristin Milioti said on Conan O’Brien that she was almost arrested when she moved to Los Angeles. “It’s been hard to get used to the driving. I was almost arrested the first night ‘cause they thought I was drunk…I failed every sobriety test,” but she’d had nothing to drink.
As for playing the ukulele, she said, “Everything sounds awesome on it…it’s easy to play - it’s like the ultimate party instrument or just ‘alone on the porch’ instrument.”
