Cobie Smulders is a Canadian actress and former model. She is best known for her roles on the critically acclaimed comedy series "How I Met Your Mother" and Marvel Comics' blockbuster film "The Avengers."
Jacoba Francisca Maria Smulders was born in French-speaking Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada on April 3, 1982. She was named after her great-aunt, who also gave her the nickname "Cobie." As a child, Cobie's aspirations were very different than the path her career would end up taking. Since she was little, she dreamed of either becoming a doctor or a marine biologist. However, once she began taking up theater in high school, she developed a taste for it.
Being quite a looker, it wasn't long before Cobie was noticed by a modeling agency. And not much longer after that, she was whisked off to cities in Europe and Asia, all the while finding a balance between her modeling and her studies. She still managed to not only graduate high school on time in 2000, but with honors at that. Her class even voted her "Most Respected."

A young woman of many talents, it came to a point shortly after high school when Cobie simply didn't find modeling to be a challenge anymore, and wanted more for her life. Therefore, she packed up and shipped out to Los Angeles to pursue her true passion: acting. She landed her first role as the lead in a short film from Canadian actor/director Eric Johnson entitled "Candy from Strangers." This lead to further, although minor, acting roles in television series such as "Special Unit 2," Jeremiah," and "Tru Calling." Eventually, in 2003, Cobie acquired her first series regular role on "Veritas: The Quest."
After several more guest appearances on series such as "Smallville" and "The L Word," Cobie got her big break: she was cast as Robin on the immensely popular CBS comedy "How I Met Your Mother" in 2005. Couple that with her recent appearance in the highest grossing film of 2012, Marvel's "The Avengers," and you've got a career that is just beginning to build up some series steam. Look to see this brunette beauty's star to continue to rise in the coming years, as she is set to not only appear in "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" in 2014, but also rumored for "The Avengers 2" the following year.
