Once she graduated from DeKalb High School as valedictorian, she won an academic scholarship to study chemical engineering at Northwestern University. She dropped out after one quarter to pursue modeling full-time. She later moved to New York and her career exploded.
She was nicknamed “Baby Gia” because of her resemblance to model Gia Carangi. Cindy Crawford has appeared in countless magazine covers (600+), music videos (George Michael’s “Freedom ‘90”), movies (“Fair Game”), and fitness videos.

In 1995, Cindy Crawford was named the highest paid model in the world by Forbes magazine. In 1998 she posed nude for Playboy, shot by Herb Ritts. She was the first supermodel to pose for the magazine. She said, “My breasts are beautiful and I gotta say: they’ve gotten a lot of attention for what’s relatively short screen time.” She followed that gig with a 6-year hosting gig for MTV’s “House of Style.”
Though she quit modeling in 2000, Cindy Crawford still appears occasionally in magazines. She has admitted to Botox and vitamin injections. She was married to actor Richard Gere from 1991-1995.
She has two children from her marriage to Rande Gerber: Presley Walker Gerber and Kaya Jordan Gerber. Aside from modeling, she does charity work around childhood leukemia, based in part on the death of her brother when she was 10 years old.
