Caterina Murino is an Italian film and television actress. She is known primarily for her role as sexy Bond girl Solange in 2006's "Casino Royale."
Caterina Murino is not your average actress. Sure she's beautiful and talented, but her aspirations growing up had little to do with her current career. In fact, long before the idea of becoming a Hollywood movie star even crossed her mind, she actually wanted to be a doctor. Alas, her ravishing good looks would have been wasted on such a profession. Hence, she went ahead and gave modeling a shot instead, which payed off in a big way in 1996, when she placed fourth in the Miss Italy competition.
Born in Cagliari, Sardinia, Italy, it didn't take long into Caterina's adult life before she began taking a shine to live theatre. In fact, she would often save up in order to attend weekly shows at the West End Theatre while briefly living in London. Her further work as a model in commercials for Mastercard, Swatch, and Mercedes-Benz only pushed her aspirations to pursue a career in acting further. By 1999, she had returned to Italy to study acting at the Scuola di Cinema e Teatro di Francesca de Sapio. The very same year, she made her acting debut on stage in Richard III, followed by several more Italian language plays.
By 2002, Caterina began acting in a number of television roles in Italian, German, and French productions. In 2004, she had landed her first recurring role on the series "Orgoglio," following this up with another major role in the mini-series "Vientos de agua" two years later. But it was her role as Solange Dimitrios in the 2006 James Bond film "Casino Royale" that really shot her to the top as far as American audiences were concerned. With one breakout role, her career skyrocketed, working steadily in film and television alike ever since.
