When she was still a baby, Azita's family fled Afghanistan after the war with the Soviet Union. Her family made it to the United States, where they were granted asylum. Azita said, "Everybody kind of fled as the Russians were coming and going into different camps on the border of Afghanistan and Pakistan and Iran. We fled Tehran and into the United States. My mom single-handedly took.her family out of refugee camps" (

Azita Ghanizada was brought up in Northern Virginia. Azita has two sisters. She attended James Madison High School in Vienna, Virginia. During her high school years, she did a stint working on Capitol Hill. She graduated from Virginia Tech with a degree in English and Communications.

Supposedly, Azita Ghanizada learned to speak English from watching television. Her trips to see Bollywood movies inspired her to become an actress. She subsequently moved to Los Angeles and landed a few commercials, including Taco Bell, Virgin Mobile and Bausch & Lomb. She was also the co-host of Style Network's "A Modern Girl's Guide to Life," in 2003.

Azita Ghanizada has appeared in "A Kiss on the Nose," "How I Met Your Mother," "Entourage," "Veronica Mars," "The Wedding Bells," "NUMB3RS," "Bones," "Psych" and "Castle." Her most recent gig is her role on "Alphas."

Azita says she is very different from her character on "Alphas." "I'm very outgoing and bubbly and I'm sweet and generous and I'm very confident and I kind of walk into a room banging pots and pans and give hugs."

She said of being a working actor, "I'm honored to be a working actor. I'm honored to be one of the first girls from Afghanistan to break through on television in the United States. There aren't a lot of us and I kind of wanna blaze that trail" (

Azita Ghanizada says she exercises "five to six days a week. It is part of the job to stay emotionally sound and physically fit " that's what we are paid for. Basically, we are the product; our bodies are the tool." Azita swears by Pilates to keep her figure and she enjoys traditional cooking from her homeland.

Azita speaks fluent Dari, an Afghan dialect and English. She lives in West Hollywood, California.
