Although born in Vicenza, Italy on August 20, 1974 due to her father being a U.S. serviceman stationed there at the time, Amy Lou Adams is still an all-American girl. When she was eight, she and her family finally found a permanent home in Castle Rock, Colorado after moving around from base to base. From a young age, performing has been in Amy's blood, as her family would often stage theatrical versions of scripts her father would write in their own home. She also spent her school years at Douglas County High in choir, ballet, and regional theater.

After high school, Amy began focusing less on ballet, which she had initially wanted to pursue as a career, and more on acting in local theater. It was through her dancing, however, that her career made its shift after she met director Michael Brindisi in 1995. He had seen her performing in Colorado and presented her with a new job in Chanhassen, Minnesota at the Chanhassen Dinner Theatres. After a dancing injury, Amy decided to audition for the movie "Drop Dead Gorgeous," which was filming nearby. She got the part, and because of it, made the transition into being a professional actress.

Like many actresses who have hit there big break, the road to full on stardom took some time. It was actress Kirstie Alley who encouraged Amy to move to Hollywood in 2000 after "Drop Dead Gorgeous." Even though her career did pick up steam with small roles on TV series such as "That '70s Show," "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," and "Cruel Intentions" (which was actually scrapped and turned into a sequel instead), it wasn't until 2002 that she was cast in another major motion picture "Catch Me If You Can." Spielberg himself requested she audition after seeing her in "Drop Dead Gorgeous."

Although she didn't get another acting role for over a year, when she finally starred in the film "Junebug" in 2005, her career finally blew up. She was nominated for an Academy Award in 2006 for best supporting actress in the film, a feat she would later achieve three more times for films "Doubt" (2009) "The Fighter" (2011), and "The Master" (2013). Along with her terrific acting, Amy is also a very talented singer, and has showed off her chops in that department in films such as "Enchanted" (2007) and "The Muppets" (2011).
