Born in Newport Beach, California on October 29, 1981, Amanda Ray Beard is a seven-time Olympic medalist swimmer.
She has two gold, four silver and one bronze, and she is the former world record holder in the 200-meter breaststroke.
Over her career, Amanda Beard has won twenty-one medals that span the Olympics, the World Championships, the Pan Pacific Championships and the Summer Universiade. She has twice earned the American Swimmer of the Year Award.

Amanda Beard began her Olympic career at the 1996 Atlanta Games when she was only 14 and still a student at Irvine High School. She became the second-youngest medalist in American history when she won three medals there. Amanda was also notably photographed holding her teddy bear.
Yet, her swimming career had only begun. And she was successful until 2012 when she failed to qualify for the 2012 Olympic team after finishing in the 5th place at the Swimming Trials.
With her swimming success, Amanda Beard has modeled, appearing in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition, Playboy (nude) and FHM. Regarding her spread in Playboy, she said, As someone with a healthy lifestyle, I am trying to send a positive message that different body types are sexy. Concerning charity, Amanda Beard is a spokeswoman for Defenders of Wildlife. She has also participated in an anti-fur campaign for PETA.

She has since written a book, In the Water They Cant See You Cry, which revealed her battles with depression, cutting and an eating disorder. Amanda said, No one was seeing how sad I was. It makes you think, Oh my Gosh, this is what I should look like. So that started to stress me out that I had to live up to the expectations of this swimsuit-model girl. Its just so unrealistic.
Amanda Beard is a vegetarian. She is married to Sacha Brown. She gave birth to a son, Blaise Ray Brown in 2009. She and her family live in Tucson, Arizona.
