Alyson Hannigan is an American actress She is best known for her roles on the television series "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "How I Met Your Mother." She also played Michelle Flaherty in the "American Pie" series of films.
Alyson Lee Hannigan was born on March 24, 1974 in Washington, D.C. An only child, her parents divorced when she was just two years old and she was raised by her mother Emilie in Atlanta, Georgia. Of course, considering she'd made her screen "acting" debut at three months old in an industrial Active Parenting film and began appearing in commercials for such famous brands as McDonald's, Six Flags, and Oreos by the time she was only four, it didn't take her long to make her way to Los Angeles. By age 11, she moved there with her family and the bright career ahead of her started to fall into place.
After appearing in the films "Impure Thoughts" and "My Stepmother Is an Alien" in 1985 and 1988 respectively, Alyson landed her first recurring television role on the series "Free Spirit" in 1989, paving the way for numerous guest appearance on such popular series as "Roseanne," "Touched by an Angel," and "Picket Fences" over the next several years. By 1997, she was cast in her breakout role as Willow Rosenberg on the series "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," a role she went on to play for seven seasons. In the midst of that, she also took on the role of Michelle in the teen sex comedy "American Pie" in 1999, launching her to the next level of stardom.
By 2004, Alyson made her stage debut in the London's West End adaptation production of When Harry Met Sally, expanding her horizons all the more until transitioning back to television in 2005 when she again launched herself into a role that would go on to be a mega success on the CBS comedy "How I Met Your Mother." Since then, she has continued to take on guest roles on series such as "Veronica Mars" and even "The Simpsons" while all the while raising a family alongside husband and fellow "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" alum Alexis Denisof.
