Payday 2 Producer Says That If They Can Make the Game Look Better on PS4 Than Xbox One, They Will

Payday 2‘s producer Almir Listo has shed some light on the upcoming PS4 and Xbox One re-release of the game, stating that developer Overkill will fully utilize the power of both consoles even if it means making the PS4 version of the game look better than its Xbox One counterpart.

Speaking to Videogamer, Listo discussed the upcoming Crimewave edition of the game, set for release on Sony and Microsoft’s current-gen consoles. When questioned about the level of parity between the two versions of the game, he said: “They [PS4 and Xbox One] are both going to be… I don’t know if I’m able to say ‘identical’, but basically we’re going to cram in as much as we can.”

He continued: “It would be unfair of me to say that they’re going to be identical, because if hypothetically speaking we can make the PS4 make better stuff than the Xbox One does, then why wouldn’t we do that? If we can take it up a notch, improve the frame rate a bit or whatever, why wouldn’t we do that?”

The topic of parity between the two consoles previously led to Assassin’s Creed: Unity having its frame rate locked at 30fps in order to quell debates regarding the differing performance of the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game, which was met with a barrage of complaints from PS4 console owners. While Listo’s comments could be misconstrued as him claiming that Overkill will spend more time with Payday 2‘s PS4 port, in reality it’s good to see a developer aiming to make the best use of the technology that’s been given to them, even if it does mean that the Xbox One version of the game will look slightly worse by comparison.

Payday 2: Crimewave Edition is set to release on the PS4 and Xbox One in June. It will include over a year’s of DLC and all the updates the PC version of the game has received.
