Condemned Creator Wants to Give Series to Indie Dev for Condemned 3

Producer Jace Hall helped develop the Condemned series of horror games, but now he has revealed that, as he has ownership of the franchise, he is considering handing the license over to an independent developer in order to see a Condemned 3 be created.

The Condemned series received a positive reaction from critics and gamers alike, with its first entry, Condemned: Criminal Origins, being one of the highlights Xbox 360’s launch line-up. Condemned 2: Bloodshot was released in 2008, but since then there has been little talk of a follow-up to the sequel, though Hall seems keen to allow it to be handled by someone other than himself.

Taking to Facebook, Hall wrote:

“Deep thought..and question…

I helped to create a video game console franchise called “Condemned.” I currently own the entire franchise.

There have been 2 game titles released for the franchise, “Condemned: Criminal Origins” and “Condemned: Bloodshot” – they both did well, and I am consistently asked when a third game might be created.

Since I am focused on other things, and will be for quite some time, this franchise is just sitting there.

I am contemplating finding an interested and proven Indie development team AND PROVIDING IT TO THEM, so that they can take over the franchise and move it forward.

As an indie, it can be very hard to get marketing/media attention for a title that you work on. This franchise is already quite known, has market demand, and is in an innovative genre/category.

Should I explore this idea further? What say you all?”

Many fans of the series indicated that they believed Outlast developer Red Barrels should take over development duties, given that Condemned and their own survival horror game’s tone were relatively similar. Other suggestions included The Vanishing of Ethan Carter developer The Astronauts, Amnesia devs Frictional Games and The Chinese Room, who are currently working on the mysterious Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture.

It’s not been confirmed by Hall whether or not this is the direction he is definitely headed down with the series, nor whether any independent developer would have interest in reviving a series that, quite frankly, many have forgotten about over the years. We do know one thing, though – if anyone can match the sheer horror of Condemned 2‘s infamous “bear scene,” we’ll be impressed.
