Witcher 3 Dev CD Projekt RED Responds To Sub-1080p Claims

The Witcher 3 may be a next-gen exclusive, but apparently that doesn’t mean full HD resolution is a given. Despite recent rumors claiming 1080p would not be achieved on consoles, however, developer CD Projekt RED has responded with an official statement. Their explanation? Nothing is final.

As [The Witcher 3 visual effects artist Jose Teixeira] said, we are working hard on optimizing the game and nothing is set in stone. Our engine team remains optimistic and we will surely squeeze the most we can out of each console. I know you might be expecting concrete info like the final frame rate and resolution, but it’s simply impossible to give you that sort of thing before the optimization process is complete.

I think CDPR’s explanation is a genuine one, but that doesn’t mean I’m not itching to know what the final result will be. I’ve always prioritized resolution above frame rate as long as it doesn’t dip below 30 (I play mainly on a monitor that makes 720p upscaling very evident), and luckily, it does sound as though 30fps will be achieved, at the very least.

This issue has reared its head before concerning The Witcher 3, most notably when a Russian website reported that the PS4 version of the game would run at 900p, while the Xbox One edition would be forced to scale down to 720p.

The Witcher 3 is scheduled to release on PS4, Xbox One, and PC on February 24th, so it won’t be long before the game’s resolution mysteries are solved. When in doubt, play on PC.
