Star Wars: Battlefront Release Coming Sooner Than Expected

At E3 DICE revealed Star Wars: Battlefront, an announcement that was immediately followed by praise. However, its teaser was only seconds long and showed no gameplay creating the impression that its release is distant. Thankfully, the impression is far from the truth.

EA Games label president Frank Gibeau shared during the latest earnings call with investors that Star Wars: Battlefront is far into development. He said:

The DICE team is well into development on that product already, so we feel very bullish about our shooter rotation over the next several years.

Since Battlefield typically has a release every other year and is about to debut another title, his mention of “shooter rotation” hints at a Star Wars: Battlefront release during 2014.

There have already been five releases in the Battlefront series. Although they haven’t been well received, they have garnered a following with Star Wars fans. DICE’s Star Wars: Battlefront is said to adhere to Star Wars qualities like its predecessors while also taking the IP to the next-generation in gaming. What that means is yet to be seen, but a gameplay trailer should be released in short order to give gamers an idea of what DICE has come up with.
