Gamescom 2013: Valve Has a Gamescom Booth, Game(s) to Reveal

Valve is attending this year’s Gamescom. I know, you’re probably saying it attends every year, but this time is different.

Valve has been quiet since Counter-Strike: Global Offensive released during August 2012. With the advent of the next gaming generation coming soon, Valve might feel it’s (finally) time to move forward with the Half-Life franchise. Fans of the award-winning series (Half-Life 2 is regarded by many as the best game of the last decade) have been waiting anxiously with nothing to chew on since 2007 when Half-Life 2: Episode 2 released. Before that, Valve confirmed that there would be three episodes between HL2 and HL3.

Let’s say HL2: E3 and HL3 are being saved until more technology is available, the company still has to have something in the pipeline. This is a company that you could argue is in its prime and has had nothing confirmed except Dota 2 patches for the past 10 months.

In regards to what Valve has been working on behind closed vaults doors, it was satisfied with the conclusion of Portal 2 making a sequel unlikely. Left for Dead 3 is possible, but just as likely as a new IP. The possibilities are endless, but HL2: E3 and HL3 still make the most sense.

If Valve doesn’t tickle your fancy, you also have Take-Two Interactive to be excited about. It also has reserved a booth area for Gamescom, and it’d be shocking if Grand Theft Auto V isn’t the keystone of its booth area. The event is one month before the launch of GTAV making it the perfect time to get the hype train going. Not just screenshots or hints at the plot, but things that make you crave what’s next for the series. You know, things like jetpacks, side-missions, and fan service.

Gamescom will run from August 21-25 and will be hosted in Cologne, Germany.
