Hilarious Video Takes The Piss Out Of Sydney’s Lockout Laws, Using Super Mario

The Mushroom Kingdom used to be a magical place, where you could Mario Party with your mates until the break of dawn.

But after Toad gets into a drunken altercation with a Koopa Troopa at a warp pipe party, “Mario” Mike Baird institutes lockouts, and it’s game over for Mushroom nightlife.

Poor Luigi doesn’t know what to do. He can’t even rage quit.

But luckily, Mario Mike has a solution: the casino!

This hilarious video from a YouTuber named Gun Fingers uses old school Nintendo animation to expose the alleged corruption at the heart of the NSW Government’s lockout laws, of which both the Star City and Barangaroo casinos are exempt (despite the former being smack-bang in the middle of the demarcated lockout zone).

Many critics of the laws believe that they are a transparently evil scheme to funnel the city’s drunkest people into its top gambling dens by locking them out of everywhere else, thus fattening the pockets of James Packer and the gambling lobby: reportedly some of the liberal party’s biggest financial backers.

And while the Super Mario video is worthy of a good LOL, watching Mario Mike and James “Bowser” Packer frolic in a shower of coins while Kerby gets crushed by a thwomp, Link cry about losing all of Zelda’s life savings and Luigi pound away fruitlessly at an empty coin block as the lights fade out, is inherently tragic.

But, as Mario Mike says “That’s a-moralising!”
