Tom Cruise Dies in New ‘Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation’ Trailer

It just ain’t Mission: Impossible if Tom Cruise isn’t doing something extremely stupid. Sure, he’s doing it for a good cause – like saving the world – but every single entry in this hit franchise seems to include at least one instance where Tom Cruise leaps from an impossible height, scales the world’s tallest building, or at least clings to the back of a speeding bullet train. And that trend isn’t going to stop with Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, the film in which Tom Cruise apparently dies for the second time since Mission: Impossible III.

And apparently, he gets better. We’re not sure why Paramount Pictures and Bad Robot decided to spoil what looks like a pulse-pounding sequence from Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation in this new trailer, but they did. Fortunately, the rest of the film looks like it’s full of crazy stunts and action sequences, including a high speed motorcycle chase and a bit we’ve already seen where Tom Cruise dangles from a jet as it takes off.

Unlike most Mission: Impossible movies, Cruise doesn’t seem to have an all-new team this time around. His Ghost Protocol buddies Jeremy Renner and Simon Pegg are back in the action, helping to stop an “anti-IMF” group from whatever their dastardly plan is. As for the whereabouts of Paula Patton, who turned heads in the previous entry, well… she’s nowhere to be seen. In her place is Rebecca Ferguson (Hercules), who may or may not be a very bad person.

Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, directed by Christopher McQuarrie (Jack Reacher), hits theaters on July 31, 2015.
