Crytek Brings Dinosaurs to Oculus Rift and the Results Look Terrifying

Esteemed video game development studio Crytek is known for pushing the boundaries when it comes to graphics, with the team being responsible for one of the most visually groundbreaking series of all time, Crysis. Now the dev is dipping its toes into virtual reality, releasing a demo titled Back to Dinosaur Island for the Oculus Rift VR headset.

The demo, initially unveiled at GDC 2015, is now available to view in the form of a direct feed, though it’s obviously not a fraction as terrifying as it would be if you were wearing the Rift. The demo sees a Tyrannosaurus rex confronting the player, who is unfortunately placed in the middle of a selection of t-rex eggs, with Crytek’s CryEngine beautifully recreating the dinosaur’s movements, along with the air it ferociously breathes out of its nostrils whilst checking the player out and, presumably, attempting to find out whether or not they’re worth eating.

Take a look at the demo below:

Though this isn’t a demo of a planned release for Crytek, it could potentially serve to inspire them to create a virtual reality game set within the Jurassic period, or at least one that involves some form of dinosaur.

While the Oculus Rift is already full to the brim with software intended to provoke a few scares out of the player, we’d quite happily let a dinosaur-centric game developed by Crytek into our lives.
