SPECTRE: Sam Mendes Describes the Plot in New Video

James Bond movies tend to be clouded in mystery until they are finally released, a usually pointless endeavor since they typically amount to little more than Bond traveling the world, shooting bad guys, sleeping with two women and stop the villain’s master plan.

But as when learn in this new behind the scenes vlog from SPECTRE, that may not be the case this time around. Or at least, that there may be a little more to it this time.

The current plot synopsis for SPECTRE reads as follows: “A cryptic message from Bond’s past sends him on a trail to uncover a sinister organization. While M battles political forces to keep the secret service alive, Bond peels back the layers of deceit to reveal the terrible truth behind SPECTRE.”

And yet in this video, Sam Mendes takes us a little deeper, promising that after Skyfall, the new film SPECTRE will represent “the second part of a crucial story of Bond’s childhood,” a topic that has barely – if ever – been broached before in the movies. Sam Mendes also teases what may be in store for the new M (Ralph Fiennes), Moneypenny (Naomie Harris) and Q (Ben Whishaw). Bond has been put into the unusual position of being far more experienced than his bosses, which apparently leads to greater conflict down the line.

SPECTRE co-stars Christoph Waltz (Django Unchained), Monica Bellucci (Shoot ‘Em Up), Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy) and Lea Seydoux (Blue is the Warmest Colour). The 24th film in the James Bond franchise flirts its way into theaters on November 6, 2015.
