Margaret Pomeranz Joins Foxtel

Veteran film critic Margaret Pomeranz is making a television comeback, joining Foxtel to head the pay TV network’s new Arts channel.

Just weeks after wrapping up a combined 28-year career alongside David Stratton hosting The Movie Show (1986-2004 on SBS) and At The Movies (2005-2014 on the ABC), the 70-year-old will now join actor, director and journalist Graeme Blundell on weekly program Screen, a ‘what to watch’ guide traversing film, television and online mediums.

“I look forward to joining Foxtel and am thrilled to share my passion for film with viewers and movie fans all around the country,” Pomeranz said. “While movies are my first love, I am also genuinely excited to be working with Graeme and getting my teeth into the exciting television and online environment which is so diverse, popular and ever changing.”

“I think it’s lovely,” Pomeranz said of working not just with film. “You don’t do the job I’ve done for all this time without being hooked on cinema and loving it.”

“It’s perfect for me, I’ll keep up with television, instead of having to binge out (on it) during the Christmas holidays.

“It’s going to be another adventure in television and it’s really exciting.”

Having only wrapped up At The Movies in December, Pomeranz said she didn’t expect such a quick return to TV.

“I thought I was just going to lie on a beach somewhere and read crimmies,” she said. “I’m rather relieved that that’s not going to happen. And I can tell you my children are relieved too.”

Margaret Pomeranz Presents will also make a 2015 debut on Foxtel, a detailed weekly look at the host’s movie of choice.

Both Screen and Margaret Pomeranz Presents will air in early March.
