Cuba Gooding Jr. Is O.J. Simpson In FX’s ‘American Crime Story’

Earlier this year, Ryan Murphy signed a deal with FX to create and produce “American Crime Story,” a new anthology series that will mimic the format of Murphy’s “American Horror Story” by changing the cast and storylines every season.

At the time, Murphy and FX revealed that each season of “American Crime Story” will be based upon a famous true crime, with the O.J. Simpson story as the basis for the first season. Today, FX announced that Cuba Gooding Jr. will star in the first season as Simpson, with “American Horror Story” veteran Sarah Paulson as Marcia Clark, the lead prosecutor in the case against Simpson.

In 1994, Simpson was accused of murdering his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend, Ron Goldman. Simpson was eventually acquitted during the infamous “Trial of the Century,” but he was found liable for the deaths in Civil court. Simpson is currently in jail on charges of armed robbery in Nevada while seeking a new trial.

Gooding won the best supporting Oscar for his performance in Jerry Maguire, and he was a headlining actor in several films including As Good As It Gets, Men of Honor, What Dreams May Come and Instinct. More recently, Gooding has appeared in Red Tails, Les Daniels’ The Butler and Machete Kills (pictured above).

Murphy is slated to direct the first two episodes of “American Crime Story” from a script by Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski. The series is expected to premiere on FX in 2015.
