Dolan, Cronenberg Flicks Make TIFF’s Top 10 Films

It may come as no surprise – Xavier Dolan’s acclaimed flick “Mommy,” as well as David Cronenberg’s “Maps to the Stars” and Sturla Gunnarsson’s project “Monsoon” have all made TIFF’s list of the Top 10 Films in Canada – they will be celebrated during Canada’s Top Ten Film Festival, which will include screenings, filmmaker Q&As, and onstage discussions with celebrated Canadians Keanu Reeves, Naomi Klein, Avi Lewis, and Sandra Oh.

“These are our filmmakers. They live among us,” said artistic director Cameron Bailey in an interview after the event with The Canadian Press. “This is our creativity up on screen. These filmmakers reflect what we live and so that’s why we celebrate them.”

TIFF’s Top Ten list is as follows:

“Corbo,” Mathieu Denis (Christal Films)

“Félix et Meira (Felix & Meira),” Maxime Giroux (FunFilm Distribution)

“In Her Place,” Albert Shin (A71 Entertainment Inc.)

“Maps to the Stars,” David Cronenberg (Entertainment One Films)

“Mommy,” Xavier Dolan (Entertainment One Films)

“Monsoon,” Sturla Gunnarsson (KinoSmith)

“The Price We Pay,” Harold Crooks (Filmoption International)

“Sol,” Marie-Hélène Cousineau and Susan Avingaq (Vtape)

“Tu dors Nicole,” Stéphane Lafleur (Entertainment One Films)

“Violent,” Andrew Huculiak

“Canadian movies and Canadian talent have proven themselves among the best in the world,” said Cameron Bailey, TIFF’s artistic director, in a statement (The Globe and Mail). “Now it’s our chance to get together and celebrate our best.”

The 10-day TIFF Top Ten Film Festival runs from January 2-11 at the Toronto TIFF Bell Lightbox before hitting the road with stops in Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, Winnipeg, and Montreal.
