Zach Galifianakis: “Being a Celebrity is Shit”

In another likely unsurprising quote from the offbeat, quirky, and very funny Zach Galifianakis, he’s expressed his disdain for celebrity status and the life that comes along with it:

Being a celebrity is shit — it’s dumb and I’m not interested in it. I like to be an actor, and that’s it. The blurred lines are, I think, man-made. I think celebrity is a man-made thing. It’s not innate in us. We have people telling us, ‘We should pay attention to these people,’ for all the wrong reasons, their personal lives and whatnot. … I’d rather just do my work and go home and watch Lifetime.

You read that right, Zach Galifianakis lambasts celeb status altogether. However, other actors out of the spotlight (Ed Norton, Michael Keaton, and others) seem to enjoy being famous and recognized, but in a way that holds more meaning than it currently does in western entertainment and pop culture.

Do you think Zach’s viewpoint has a place, or is echoed anywhere else, in today’s entertainment industry?
