Ricky Gervais Announces David Brent Movie

Partially delivering on a promise to bring his flagship TV show “The Office” to the big screen, Ricky Gervais has announced his alter-ego David Brent will be getting his own feature film.

Life on the Road will follow Brent in the years after being made redundant from paper sales company Wernham Hogg as he sets out on a last-ditch attempt to achieve his rock star goals. Like “The Office”, it will be filmed in mockumentary style and is backed by the BBC.

As Gervais explains in a statement, “[Brent] thinks it’ll be like Scorsese filming The Rolling Stones, but it turns out to be a ‘Where are they now?’ documentary. He has to take a few weeks off work and cash in a couple of pensions, because the session musicians in the band are costing him more than he’s getting in ticket sales. Tragic.”

David Brent has appeared in various public forms since The Office concluded in 2003. Gervais revisited the character last year for a Comic Relief special, and Brent featured in a series of spoof guitar tutorials on YouTube. David Brent also went out on the road for a series of sold-out gigs with his band, Foregone Conclusion.

Life On The Road is confirmed to begin shooting early next year.
