Suarez Tells Liverpool Fans “You’ll Never Walk Alone” Before Leaving Them

Luis Suarez has officially left Liverpool for Barcelona for £75 million, it was confirmed today (July 11th).

The striker will sign a five-year contract with the La Liga giants after attending a medical exam, with the 27-year-old making an official statement regarding the transfer. He said: “It is with a heavy heart that I leave Liverpool for a new life and new challenges in Spain. Me and my family have fallen in love with this club and with the city. We will always be Liverpool supporters. This club did all they could to get me to stay, but playing and living in Spain, where my wife’s family live, is a lifelong dream and ambition. I believe now the timing is right.”

Suarez is currently banned from football for biting Italian defender Chiellini in the World Cup, a 9-month punishment which would have seen him miss the beginning of Liverpool’s next Premier League season. The £75 million Liverpool now has in its wallet following the transfer will see Brendan Rodgers looking to bulk up his squad, after Suarez helped the club reach second place in the league behind winners Manchester City.

Suarez continued: “I wish Brendan Rodgers and the team well for the future. The club is in great hands and I’m sure will be successful again next season. I am very proud I have played my part in helping to return Liverpool to the elite of the Premier League and in particular back into the Champions League.

“Thank you again for some great moments and memories. You’ll Never Walk Alone.”
