Calgary Stampede Gets Started On July 4th

Dubbed the “greatest show on earth,” the Calgary Stampede is gearing up for another impressive jam-packed event starting on July 4th – the 10-day event gets things going with the annual Calgary Stampede Parade.

The world’s richest tournament-style rodeo, the Calgary Stampede features top-ranked cowboys and cowgirls vying for more than $2 million in prizes and the thrilling GMC Rangeland Derby, including 36 chuckwagons and 216 horses competing for the more than $1.15 million purse.

CBC and Sportsnet ONE will have coverage of all of the exciting events that make up The Calgary Stampede presented by GMC, including the Calgary Stampede Parade with Grand Marshal William Shatner on July 4th and Championship Weekend featuring Wild Card Saturday and Showdown Sunday on July 12th and 13th, respectively. Daily coverage will also include rangeland derby (chuckwagon) and rodeo action on CBCSports.ca and Sportsnet, as well as a nightly wrap-up show on CBC-TV.

There will also be a number of concerts with performers like homegrown beauty Shania Twain as well as Paul Brandt, Reba, and Keith Urban.

The Calgary Stampede runs from July 4-13. For more info on tickets, click here.
