Franco Brothers Team Up On New Film Based On Cult Classic ‘The Room’

Tommy Wiseau’s cult classic The Room, dubbed by many as one of the worst movies ever made, has inspired the making of another film, set to star both James Franco and his younger brother Dave Franco.

At a recent screening of the cult favourite in Los Angeles, more than a decade after its cinematic release, the younger Franco confirmed that he would be taking on the role of Greg Sestero, Wiseau’s conflicted best friend, reports Variety.

Franco senior, James, followed up the confirmation by posting a picture to his Instagram account of his younger brother and Wiseau, captioning it: “DAVY FRANCO and TOMMY WEISEAU [sic]!!! “The Disaster Artist” COMING SOON”.

Greg Sestero is also the author of last year’s tell-all book The Disaster Artist: My Year Inside The Room, The Greatest Bad Movie Ever Made, which was optioned by Seth Rogan who will act as the film’s producer. James Franco will direct the project as well as take on the starring role with his portrayal of Tommy Wiseau.

The movie that Entertainment Weekly affectionately called “The Citizen Kane of Bad Movies,” quickly garnered a cult-like fan-base following its 2003 release. According to Variety, shooting on the tribute film will start either late this year or in early 2015.
