Tech Squibs: Satechi Smart Trigger Pulls Remote Photos

This Tech Squib wonders where you are while your camera is clicking away remotely.

The Smart Trigger from Satechi is a Bluetooth device that remotely controls your DSLR camera via a smartphone or tablet. A downloadable free app completes the team, allowing a photographer to take shots without physical contact with the camera  as long as he or she is in Bluetooth range (about 50 feet).

The Smart Trigger is perfect for setting up remote or time lapse shots where a distant click on app is easier than hovering over the camera. It’s also useful for old-fashioned selfies if you want to use DSLR for photos of yourself.

For it’s $45 price tag, the only weakness is the app paired with the device. It offers no remote view finder, so  while you can operate shutter controls remotely  you can’t see what the camera is looking at via the app. That makes setting up the camera in the first place all-important.
