Rob Zombie Brings The Manson Family To Fox

This May, Fox is officially jumping back into the TV miniseries game with “24: Live Another Day;” which will be followed by “Wayward Pines” later this year. Now Fox may have another miniseries to continue the trend.

Variety is reporting that Fox is developing a miniseries based on the infamous Manson Family murders from 1969. Screenwriter Bret Easton Ellis and director Rob Zombie are spearheading the project, with Manson slated to direct.

During the late ‘60s, Charles Manson built a cult of personality around himself and he was ultimately convicted of conspiracy to commit murder after his followers brutally killed at least seven people, including actress Sharon Tate. Manson is currently serving a life sentence behind bars in California.

“I have been obsessed with this insane story since I was a kid,” said Zombie. “So obviously I jumped at the chance to be involved in this incredible project. After speaking with Bret, I immediately realized that we shared the same vision for this epic madness.”

The report notes that Zombie and Ellis will tell the story of the Manson Family from multiple points-of-view as events converge in tragedy. The currently untitled Manson Family miniseries is still very early in its development and it has not yet received a formal greenlight from Fox.

Zombie initially made his name as a musician before transitioning to Hollywood as the director of House of 1000 Corpses, The Devil’s Rejects, The Lords of Salem, the 2007 reboot of Halloween and its sequel. Ellis wrote the novels American Psycho, Less Than Zero, The Rules of Attraction and The Informers in addition to the screenplay for The Canyons
