Details Surrounding Cory Monteith’s Death Released

“Glee” star Cory Monteith, who hails from Calgary and died unexpectedly this past July in a Vancouver hotel, had both alcohol and heroin in his system at the time of his passing, a recent coroner’s report said.

According to CBC News, investigators at the scene found drug paraphernalia, including a spoon with drug residue and a used hypodermic needle, along with two empty champagne bottles and glasses, the report said. Monteith died from mixed drug toxicity involving heroin and alcohol. The coroner said the fact that Monteith went to rehab, stopped using drugs for some time and then started up again, may have contributed to his death, which has been ruled an accident. A drug that was previously tolerated may become fatal after a period of time, the report explained.

Monteith, who became a household name playing Finn on the hit show “Glee,” had also started gaining some notoriety in film, appearing in such flicks as “Monte Carlo” and “Sisters & Brothers.” He was dating Lea Michelle, his “Glee” co-star and on-air girlfriend.

Monteith was 31 years old.
