Tech Squibs: Samsung Galaxy Camera Skips the Middleman

This Tech Squib is going to put some laptops out of work.

Up until now, if you choose to use a high quality digital camera to take your photos instead of the omnipresent cell phone, there was always a middle man between the camera and your favorite social media photo sharing site.

Cue the Samsung Galaxy Camera – one of the first in a new breed of digital camera ready to go online with a complete operating system and internet capability. Using wifi or a cellular plan, the Galaxy allows immediate sharing via apps or through Samsung’s own Share Shot and Samsung Link programs.

If your shot or video isn’t quite ready, Samsung’s Photo Wizard or Video Editor allow for cropping or the application of image-enhancements.

As for capturing the photos and videos you can immediately share, the Galaxy serves up a quad-core processor, 21x optical zoom lens and a 16MP sensor. The 4.8″ HD display lets you check out your work on the spot.

After using this camera in both Africa and Italy during Harley-Davidson coverage, I can report the camera is easy to use and completely effective. I stuck to wifi interacting and uploading, but the OS was comfortable and the photo speed adequate.

Maxing out at $550, the Galaxy makes you pay for cutting out that middle man, but you can leave your cellphone home with this online camera in your pocket.
