Omari Hardwick Has ‘Power’ At STARZ

“Magic City” may be over, but STARZ’s next drama is one step closer to filling the void.

STARZ has announced that Omari Hardwick has been signed to play the main character in “Power,” a new drama executive produced by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson. In “Power,’ Hardwick portrays James “Ghost” St. Patrick, the kingpin of a highly successful illegal drug network in New York who has a double life as the owner of a lavish nightclub with a rich clientele. During the series, Ghost endangers himself and his family as he attempts to cut his ties to the criminal underworld and becoming the legitimate businessman that he has pretended to be all along.

Hardwick is best known for his roles in The A-Team, Sparkle, Kick-Ass and For Colored Girls in addition to his starring turn in “Dark Blue” and guest appearances in “Breakout Kings” and “Saved.”

In a statement, a STARZ spokesperson said “Omari is an actor of incredible range and versatility. When we met Omari, we knew he had all the tools needed to play such a complicated and complex character. We look forward to him bringing Ghost to life on the screen.”

“Power” was created by Courtney Kemp Agboh (“The Good Wife”), who is executive producing the series alongside 50 Cent, Mark Canton, Randall Emmett and David Knoller.

Production on “Power” is expected to begin later this year for a 2014 debut on STARZ.
