Sandra Oh Leaving Grey’s Anatomy

Sandra Oh, otherwise known as Dr. Christina Yang on the hit medical drama “Grey’s Anatomy,” is leaving the show after this season.

Oh, who has been a mainstay on the series since its 2005 debut, told The Hollywood Reporter, “Creatively, I really feel like I gave it my all, and I feel ready to let her go. It’s such an interesting thing to play a character for so long and to actually get the sense that she wants to be let go as well. [Cristina] wants to be let go, and I am ready to let her go. We have to start the process, story-wise, for the ‘Grey’s’ writers to think of why she’s going to go.”

According to an Associated Press article, show creator and executive producer Shonda Rhimes said she’s grateful for what she called the actress’ “brilliant” work, adding that “Grey’s Anatomy” will savour Oh’s character of Dr. Cristina Yang in the upcoming 10th season and give her the exit she deserves.

A Nepean, Ontario native, Oh has won a Golden Globe as well as two Genies. Her body of work includes television (like voicework in “American Dad!”) but also films (“Under the Tuscan Sun,” “Sideways”).

Oh will finish out this season, which is the 10th, of “Grey’s Anatomy.”
