5 Questions I Want BioShock Infinite’s DLC to Answer

The long-awaited BioShock Infinite story-based DLC has been revealed. ‘Burial at Sea’ will place us in the shoes of Booker Dewitt once again, only this time we’ll be in Rapture before everything went to rack and ruin with Splicers and Little Sisters and such.

So as I prepare myself for another visit to that doomed underwater city, I thought I’d point out some questions left unanswered in BioShock Infinite‘s mind-bending plot that I’d really appreciate an explanation for. WARNING: Spoilers ahead.

1. Who was the guy in the lighthouse?

The prevailing theory is that the dead guy in the lighthouse you encounter at the very beginning of BioShock Infinite was put there to prevent Booker from entering Colombia, but was killed by the Lutece’s before he could do so. But who is this man?

We’re yet to discover whether or not ‘Burial at Sea’ revisits the sea of infinite lighthouses, but if it does, I hope that we can finally pull the sack off and see who’s under there.

2. Why did Elizabeth open up a tear to Rapture?

You know how the prequels made the Star Wars Universe seem so much smaller by having Anakin’s homeworld as Tattooine and making him the original owner of C-3PO? Well, while it was admittedly an excellent twist to have Elizabeth open up a tear to Rapture at the end of BioShock Infinite, it also made the world of BioShock seem smaller, too.

But ‘Burial at Sea’ suggests that Booker and Elizabeth’s brief visit to the underwater city was no coincidence, and will probably be an integral part of BioShock‘s lore. Or not. We’ll just have to wait and see.

3. Could we hear the Songbird in the original BioShock?

Shortly after players got their heads around BioShock Infinite‘s ending, they began revisiting the original BioShock. Upon doing this, they discovered that during one of the game’s pivotal scenes you can hear what sounds like the Songbird’s familiar screech as it drowns in Rapture. So did Irrational Games plan this from the start, or is it just a huge, awesome coincidence?

4. Is Elizabeth connected to the Little Sisters?

BioShock Infinite‘s ending informs us that there are always constants and variables. Judging from their similar appearances, it was suggested that Elizabeth and the original BioShock‘s Little Sisters are connected. As ‘Burial at Sea’ will see Elizabeth and the Little Sisters inhabiting the same world, does this mean that there is a more direct link between them?

5. Where is BioShock Infinite‘s Elizabeth?

Of the many Elizabeth’s who drown Booker at the end of Infinite, not one of them is the Elizabeth we had spent the majority of the game with. So where is she? While it’s unlikely that ‘Burial at Sea’ will have us playing as the Booker and Elizabeth we know, with her ability to tear through time, we could perhaps expect to receive a visitation from her at some point, perhaps explaining just why the hell we’re in Rapture.
