We’re genuinely surprised it took this long, but Exquisite Films is finally releasing an adult parody of the cult TV series “Xena: Warrior Princess,” and we’ve got the first images anywhere of the sure-to-be hit film. The original series ran from 1995-1999, and starred Lucy Lawless as a former despot who must atone for past sins by traveling the land, using her fighting prowess to help the innocent. The spin-off of “Hercules: The Legendary Journeys” was produced by Robert Tapert and Sami Raimi, and found a particularly large following in the LGBT community, who celebrated the series’ protagonists – Xena and her crimefighting partner, Gabrielle (Renée O’Connor) – as positive lesbian role models. The series never explicitly confirmed that the heroes were homosexual, although it repeatedly referenced the possibility throughout the show. Something tells us that Xena: Warrior Princess XXX: An Exquisite Films Parody will be decidedly less coy about it.
The parody stars Phoenix Marie as Xena, Lexi Belle as Gabrielle, Rocco Reed as Hercules (originally played by Kevin Sorbo), Tommy Pistol as Autocyclus (originally played by Bruce Campbell), Seth Gamble as Cupid (originally played by Lord of the Rings co-star Karl Urban), Tommy Gun as Ares, Nicole Aniston as Aphrodite, Lee Stone as Draco, Juelz Ventura as Alti, Randi Wright as Jessica and Chanel Preston as Topaz. Curiously enough, there’s no mention of Joxer, the fan-favorite character played by the great Ted Raimi. Maybe they’re holding off for a sequel.
Quoth director Jordan Septo: “One of my favorite things about watching the mainstream TV show ‘Xena” was Lucy Lawless’ eyes. I wanted to make sure our XXX Xena had the same piercing blue eyes capable of stopping a man in his tracks. Anyone who’s seen Phoenix Marie knows she possesses the same enchanting qualities. Phoenix completely transformed herself into the sword-wielding princess, and I am excited for fans to finally have a chance to enjoy the first photos.”
