Nevada’s Governor Has Already Declared A ‘Weed State Of Emergency’

Who would have thought that people traveling to Vegas for America’s birthday wanted to celebrate with a bundle of drugs?

Well, it turns out the answer to that question is everybody except the state of Nevada.

According to VICE News, Governor Brian Sandoval has already declared a weed state of emergency in Nevada, less than 10 days into the state’s stab at the legal marijuana game.

The reason for the state of emergency? You guessed it: The state’s dispensaries are already running out of product.

There were estimates that Nevada’s residents and guests bought nearly $3 million worth of the good shit over the Fourth of July weekend, with “well over 40,000 transactions” taking place at the state’s 47 pot stores. While some of the state’s dispensaries did their best to beef up their inventory, the sad fact of the matter is that distributor licensing is currently a bigger mess than Katt Williams.

November legislation gave exclusive rights to deliver herb to retail stores to the state’s liquor distributors, but only seven distributors applied for licenses and…wait for it…none have been approved so far. That’s why Sandoval has asked the Department of Taxation to quickly approve different parameters of who can apply for and actually get a license to distribute.

“Unless the issue with distributor licensing is resolved quickly, the inability to deliver product to the retail stores will result in many of these employees losing their jobs and will cause this nascent industry to grind to a halt,” Sandoval said.

So yeah, it’s not high times for the legal weed business the Silver State right now, but you have to think your uncle in Reno who’s been selling pot out of his mom’s house since the Reagan administration is one of the few people who are actually pretty stoked about the current state of affairs.
