SXSW 2014 VIDEO: Shawn Christensen & Fatima Ptacek on Before I Disappear

SXSW 2014: Before I Disappear – Interview with… by CraveOnline

Before I Disappear is unique amongst all the films at South By Southwest this year, because this one already has an Academy Award.

Before I Disappear is a feature-length version of Shawn Christensen’s Oscar-winning live-action short film Curfew, which starred Christensen as a suicidal drug addict forced to babysit his niece, played by Fatima Ptacek, on what could very easily be the last night of his life. Personal growth, flip-books and hallucinogenic musical numbers ensue.

We loved Curfew at CraveOnline so we were especially excited to talk to Shawn Christensen and Fatima Ptacek in this video interview about getting a feature made from their short film, trying to keep Fatima Ptacek from growing, adding more surrealism to the short’s story, the influence of After Hours, avoiding turning in The Lost World: Jurassic Park, why the title changed from Curfew to Before I Disappear, where Shawn Christensen keeps his Academy Award, and why his Oscar looked evil at Christmastime.

Before I Disappear turned out to be a pretty great movie, so we hope you’ll have the opportunity to see it at a theater near you very soon. In the meantime, check out our interview with Before I Disappear co-stars Emmy Rossum and Paul Wesley.
