Exclusive: A Black Dynamite Trilogy… Without Black Dynamite?

We had a chance to interview Michael Jai White for the “Black Dynamite” animated series today. We’ll have the full interview in the CraveOnline TV Channel in July, but we asked about the status of a Black Dynamite live-action sequel, and White shared a clever plan to reunite the Dynamite crew.

“What Byron [Minns] and I always intended is we always thought from the beginning of a trilogy, Black Dynamite being one of a trilogy that would occur in that time period that starred essentially the same cast,” White said. “We have some really funny ideas of other movies that are in that real vibrant time period. We’re trying to decide which would be the next step to do in that trilogy.”

So if the ‘70s trilogy ends without Black Dynamite 2 and 3, what’s next for Black Dynamite? We suggest picking him up in the ‘80s as an older Black Dynamite, another period piece of a different era.

“Who knows?” White humored us. “There’s some other stuff to do with Black Dynamite. We’ll definitely look at that as well. Some of these other things we’re really excited about developing.”

Another popular Michael Jai White character is Bone, from the underground fight tournament movie Blood and Bone. White says he plans to revisit Bone as well.

“Well, there is a sequel that is much better than the original. We just have to find the time to shoot it. It looks like there’s a possibility we may be able to do it by the end of the year.”

The first Blood and Bone was a small but solid straight to video affair. The sequel would be bigger, but maybe sequel isn’t even the right word for it.

“It would be a bigger film but it’s really more like a prequel that explores who that guy really is.”

CraveOnline will have more on Black Dynamite 2 after we practice kung fu. Don’t ever interrupt our kung fu.
