Minecraft’s Notch: “People Against a Heterosexual Pride Day Deserve to Be Shot”

Minecraft creator Notch has expressed some violent thoughts regarding those against the concept of a “heterosexual pride day,” saying that those who do so “deserve to be shot.”

Notch, real name Markus Persson, made the comment on Twitter, tweeting: “If you’re against the concept of a #HeterosexualPrideDay, you’re a complete f**king c**t and deserve to be shot.”

The Swedish game developer then followed up this comment, tweeting: “By a photographer … with a gun.” Notch, who has 3.86 million followers on the site, replied to a comment suggesting that “straight pride is 364 days of the year” with “so is gay pride.”

He continued: “Seriously, you morons don’t see how segregation and punching upwards will accomplish nothing more [than] reinforcing the illusion there is a divide?”

When another user asked him to point out “a time when a heterosexual was oppressed for being heterosexual” Notch, seemingly confusing discrimination with schoolyard ribbing, replied: “People get bullied for whatever quality bothers them the most.”

Notch’s comment falls in direct violation of Twitter’s content boundaries. In regards to violent threats, the Twitter policy reads: “Violent threats (direct or indirect): You may not make threats of violence or promote violence, including threatening or promoting terrorism.” According to this policy, “failure to do so may result in the temporary locking and/or permanent suspension of account(s).”

Other Twitter users promptly criticized the Minecraft creator’s comments, with Hello Games employee Innes McKendrick tweeting: “You all are reporting that notch tweet for quite explicitly saying people against straight pride deserve to be shot, right?” Hitpoint Games director Sean Oxspring wrote: “At this point I think any devs that talk to or engage with Notch need to rethink their choices. He’s absolute scum.”

Notch left his position at his former development studio Mojang in 2014, after it was acquired by Microsoft for $2.5 billion. Since then he has remained in headlines almost solely by virtue of his Twitter activity, with him arguing against the term “mansplaining” back in 2016 by saying that women were “c**tfusing the issue” and “shaming” his gender, while earlier this year he interjected in a controversy surrounding The Last Night creator’s anti-feminist tweets by calling indie developer Zoe Quinn a “f**king c**t.”

Update: Notch later deleted the tweet, writing: “So yeah, it’s about pride of daring to express, not about pride of being who you are. I get it now.”
