Spider-Man PS4 Gameplay Wraps Up Sony’s E3 Press Conference

Sony ended its E3 2017 press conference with some footage from Insomniac Games’ upcoming Spider-Man PS4 game, showing off its web-slinging action in greater detail.

Spider-Man‘s PS4 venture was a key talking point last year, and Sony clearly has a lot of faith in the game being a big hit with it wrapping up its presentation on Monday. Beginning with a stealth segment that took more than a few cues from the Batman: Arkham series — which is certainly no bad thing — it then opened up into its open-world New York setting, with Spider-Man slinging webs from buildings before fluidly transitioning into an explosive indoor segment.

The animations look top notch, with Spider-Man reacting to each movement with all the agility you’d expect him to. The action set-pieces shown also made great use of its environment, with a helicopter dragging a shipping container atop the New York streets, it smashing into skyscraper windows on its way past.

With Spider-Man: Homecoming releasing this year, Spider-Man‘s 2018 release on the PS4 may miss the boat when it comes to capitalizing on the inevitable success of the film, but if it lives up to this footage then we’re sure it’ll have no problem with driving in sales. There’s no confirmed launch date yet, so hopefully it sticks to its broad 2018 launch window and we’ll see it sooner rather than later.
