Exclusive Preview | ‘The Sheriff of Babylon’ # 12

Writer Tom King and artist Mitch Gerads have put together something special with their Vertigo comic book series, The Sheriff of Babylon. For 11 issues, King and Gerards have featured an unflinching look at Baghdad in 2003, during the height of the last U.S. war in Iraq. Now, the series is coming to an end this week, with The Sheriff of Babylon # 12, and it looks like the book is going out with a bang!

For this series, King drew upon his stint in the CIA while stationed in Baghdad. But the story itself centered on Chris Henry, an American who found himself training the Iraqi police in the so-called Green Zone; and Sofia, an Iraqi woman with ties to America and the underworld of Baghdad.

CraveOnline’s exclusive preview from The Sheriff of Babylon # 12 catches up with Chris and his Iraqi friend, Nassir as they openly acknowledge the futility of trying to train the Iraqi policemen. But then Chris sees someone in the cafe and things start to get weird. Chris has either recognized one of the true figures behind the operations in Iraq or he’s lost his damn mind. Either way, we’re about to find out.

Here’s Vertigo’s description for The Sheriff of Babylon # 12:

“Chris, Sofia and Nassir have pursued Abu Rahim, navigated complicated red tape, run afoul of some very bad men and so far have managed to make it to the other side. So far. It’s taken a year and 12 issues to get here, but this is everything we’ve been building toward. Don’t miss out on the big finale of the comic Mental Floss has already declared the best of 2016.”

The Sheriff of Babylon # 12 will be released this Wednesday, November 2 in comic shops everywhere.
