New York Comic Con 2016 | ‘Ninjak vs. The Valiant Universe’ Trailer Drops

If you clicked on this page and have no idea who Ninjak is, then you probably weren’t around for Valiant Comics’ boom in the ’90s. For a few years, Valiant was one of the hottest publishers in the industry, with books like Ninjak, Harbinger, Bloodshot, X-O Manowar, and more captured the imagination of readers. But when the comic book industry tanked later in the decade, so too did Valiant.

Valiant has since been relaunched by a new ownership group that has ambitions of following Marvel and DC to the big screen with its characters. Sony has a deal in place to make Harbinger and Bloodshot adaptations, but who knows if and when that will happen. In the interim, Valiant has teamed up with Bat in the Sun, the production company behind the popular web series Super Power Beat Down, for the first ever live-action Valiant story.

At New York Comic Con, Valiant debuted the first trailer for Ninjak vs. The Valiant Universe, and it looks pretty good! Of course, this is just the sizzle reel for the eventual web series. But it’s essentially a proof of concept that these characters can look good in live-action.

Former Arrow villain, Michael Rowe is playing Ninjak in this web series, and he’s joined by Jason David Frank as Bloodshot, John Morrison as the Eternal Warrior, Chantelle Barry as Roku, Kevin Porter as Armstrong, Ciera Foster  as Livewire and Derek Theler as X-O Manowar. Here’s the official description of the six episode series.

“Colin King is Ninjak, MI-6’s deadliest intelligence operative and weapons expert. When the ruthless assassin Roku exploits his greatest weakness, Ninjak will be forced to betray his closest allies. Now, on the run, he must face off against the most powerful heroes known to man for a high-octane, take-no-prisoners trial by fire more perilous and more unpredictable than any he’s faced before. In 2017, the world’s most dangerous super-spy goes to war with the Valiant Universe…”
