‘Arrested Development’ Season 4 Has Been Reedited Into a Full Season

In 2013, Arrested Development creator Mitch Hurwitz pulled off the Herculean task of reassembling the entire cast from its three year run on Fox for a fourth season on Netflix seven years after its cancellation. While the fifth season of Arrested Development has yet to materialize, Hurwitz has apparently revised the fourth season…and added a lot to it!

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Hurwitz took it upon himself to recut the entire fourth season, which originally came out to be 15 episodes that were 30 minutes or longer. Using new narration from Ron Howard and previously unseen scenes, Hurwitz’s new cut of the fourth season is a full 22 episodes that each run twenty two minutes.

A recut of the fourth season in chronological order had previously been floated as an idea, but it’s not clear if that’s what Hurwitz has done. More curiously, it doesn’t appear that Netflix currently has any plans to released Hurwitz’s new cut of the fourth season. But we’d be very surprised if it didn’t show up eventually.

Hurwitz also offered an update on the proposed fifth season of Arrested Development, which confirms that we’re definitely not getting it this year despite the previous rumors that it would mirror the 2016 Presidential race. “We’re very close,” Hurwitz told THR. “It’s a thing I really am desperate to do. We’ve got a lot of the stories broken. We’re kinda ready to go. I’m so appreciative of the fans wanting more, I hate to tease them with information that there is going to be more until we know for sure, but it’s what we’re trying to accomplish and if does happen, it looks like shooting would be at the start of 2017. That’s what I’m hoping.”

As before, the delay for the fifth season is down to the availability of the cast, several of whom star in other TV shows and films.
