New Chip Ganassi Racing Ford GT Le Mans Ready for ‘Forza’

We don’t usually write up virtual cars from the world of video games around here. We prefer to stick to the real thing in this department. Besides, the video game guys do a much better job of covering that world.

But, we’ll make an exception for this CG version of the nee Ford GT supercar. The actual car is not on the roads yet, but a race-tuned version will enter the world famous 24 Hours of Le Mans in France to announce its living, breathing presence to the automotive and racing worlds this month. Before that goes down, you can download that very racer now for Xbox One’s Forza Motorsport 6.

The Ford GT has a proud history at Le Mans. Versions of the car won the race in 1966, 1967, 1968 and 1969. That 1966 effort saw the GT manage a historic 1-2-3 victory.

Owners of Xbox Live message inboxes who play Forza Motorsport 6 should have the necessary download codes now to unlock a Ford Chip Ganassi Racing Ford GT. Two of the genuine article will race in the FIA World Endurance Championship and two in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. All four will run in the GTE Pro class glory at the Le Mans 24 Hours on July 18.

The Ford GT road version was the cover model for Forza Motorsport 6. The game’s owners were able to drive the video game version of the car since the game arrived. Those lucky to buy the real thing will have to wait until late 2016.
