Steve Harvey Read Out the Wrong Miss Universe Winner and the Internet Will Not Let Him Forget It

Waking up this morning and seeing the Internet’s walls plastered with the video of Steve Harvey reading out the wrong name during the Miss Universe finals, I knew I was in for some grade A cringe. Fortunately I wasn’t disappointed, as watching the host being forced to retroactively dethrone Miss Colombia and award the title to its actual winner, Miss Philippines, was a moment so excruciating that my skin felt like it was trying to turn inside out whilst watching it.

After the brief moment of jubilation for Miss Colombia following her being told that she’d won the adult beauty pageant, she was then forced to stand awkwardly as a stagehand literally hoisted her crown from off her head, plonking it on Miss Philippines’ beautiful bonce instead. Harvey fumbles over the entire disastrous event, repeatedly apologizing for his mistake and, to his credit, taking full responsibility for his error.

Take a look below:

But with the Internet being the Internet, no one is quite prepared to let this mistake slip under the carpet. Not only that, but now that the spotlight is on Harvey, some are using it as an opportunity to publicize some of the presenter’s more controversial opinions.

Sitting alongside the video of Harvey’s Miss Universe blender on the front page of Reddit is a post titled ‘Steve Harvey is a terrible person,’ with a link to a video highlighting a selection of the man’s divisive comments. These include saying that he doesn’t talk to atheists because they have no discernible “moral barometer,” as though an individual could not possibly tell the difference between right and wrong if they do not believe in God, along with a wide array of sexist and misogynistic remarks including his claim that men cheat because women want them to, and that men and women can’t be friends because all men want to have sex with all women.

The video’s almost as excruciating as his Miss Universe incident, only the comments he makes in it are actually his own thoughts and not the result of unfortunate human error. Honestly, it’s genuinely engrossing to witness a man who is so overwhelmingly confident in opinions that are 100% bullshit:

On top of this Twitter is now dog-piling on the guy, which wasn’t helped by Harvey’s own tweet he sent out after the show, which acknowledged his mistake whilst simultaneously making another embarrassing mistake in the process:

Needless to say this is not a good day for Steve Harvey… but the Internet’s having a blast.
