Exclusive Video | ‘Voltron: Legendary Defender’ Shiro vs. Sendak

Later this week, Voltron is getting a complete reboot on the Netflix original series Voltron: Legendary Defender

Things are quite a bit different on this iteration of the series. There’s a new backstory in place, new character dynamics, and reimagined versions of the original heroes. Take, for example, Shiro. In the original cartoon, Shiro was known as Sven, and he didn’t last very long on the show. In this incarnation, Shiro is the pilot of Black Lion, and the leader of the Voltron force. But that doesn’t mean he won’t eventually fall in battle and leave his role to Keith.

Netflix and DreamWorks Animation TV have provided CraveOnline with an exclusive preview scene from the first season of Voltron: Legendary Defender, which finds Shiro attempting to get his injured teammate, Lance to safety. Standing in their way is Sendak, a much tougher version of Yurak from the original series. And as you’ll see in the clip, Sendak isn’t the pushover that Yurak was!

Did I forget to mention that Shiro has a bionic arm in this incarnation? That’s a big change, and an intriguing way to weaponize him even when he’s not flying a robot lion into battle.

Every episode of Voltron: Legendary Defender will premiere this Friday, June 10 on Netflix. The voice cast includes Steven Yeun as Keith, Jeremy Shada as Lance, Bex Taylor-Klaus as Pidge, Josh Keaton as Shiro, Tyler Labine as Hunk, Kimberly Brooks as Princess Allura, Rhys Darby as Coran, Neil Kaplan King Zarkon, and Cree Summer as Haggar.
