Netflix Debuts New Trailer For ‘Voltron: Legendary Defender’

In the ’80s, there wasn’t really a Voltron. The American series known as Voltron: The Defender of the Universe was actually a reedited version of a show called Beast King GoLion. Even Vehicle Force Voltron was from an unrelated series called Armored Fleet Dairugger XV. There have been at least two attempts to revive the Voltron animated franchise, but it looks like the third attempt may be the reboot we’ve been waiting for.

Avatar: The Last Airbender veterans Lauren Montgomery and Joaquim Dos Santos are behind Netflix and DreamWorks Animation’s new Voltron: Legendary Defender series, and it looks like they’ve nailed the tone of the original incarnation. But don’t get too comfortable. This is a reinvention of Voltron from the ground up, and it’s not simply a rehash!

Netflix has released the first full length trailer for Voltron: Legendary Defender, and it spells out where the story is going as the five space explorers discover the legend of Voltron and run up against a few familiar faces.

Here’s Netflix’s description of the series.

“Five unsuspecting teenagers, transported from Earth into the middle of a sprawling intergalactic war, become pilots for five robotic lions in the battle to protect the universe from evil. Only through the true power of teamwork can they unite to form the mighty warrior known as Voltron Legendary Defender.”

All episodes of Voltron: Legendary Defender will drop on June 10.
