Fallout 4’s Upcoming DLC is Basically Pokémon

Bethesda is combining the worlds of Fallout 4 and, er, Pokémon in its upcoming DLC for its hugely popular RPG, allowing players to capture, train and then fight monsters in the Wasteland.

The developer announced three batches of Fallout 4 DLC that will be released throughout the year, titled Automatron, Wasteland Workshop and Far Harbor. The first two DLC installments are focused upon modding and customization, with Automatron tasking players with hunting down and harvesting a horde of evil robots unleashed by the mysterious Mechanist, allowing them to build and customize their own robot companions. This DLC will see players being armed with hundreds of mods, including “limbs, armor, abilities, and weapons like the all-new lightning chain gun,” with players being able to alter their companions’ paint schemes and choose their voices.

Wasteland Workshop is where the Pokémon comparisons come into play, with players being tasked with designing and setting down cages that can capture live creatures, with players able to lure in everything from Raiders to Deathclaws. After capturing these creatures, players can then train them to face off in battle against one another, and against creatures obtained by your fellow Settlers, too. This DLC package will also offer its own unique design suite for your settlement, including nixie tube lighting, letter kits, taxidermy and more.

The final DLC offering is the most substantial, with Far Harbor being a brand new tasking you with solving a case for Valentine’s Detective Agency, that will see you traveling off the coast of Maine to the mysterious island of Far Harbor, in order to find a missing young woman and a secret colony of synths. According to Bethesda, the new location “features the largest landmass for an add-on that we’ve ever created, filled with new faction quests, settlements, lethal creatures and dungeons.” The DLC will see you navigating the conflict between the synths, the Children of the Atom and the local townspeople, with it seemingly placing more of an emphasis upon player choice, the absence of which was a criticism frequently leveled at the base game.

Bethesda has also upped the stakes when it comes to Fallout 4‘s season pass, with the developer planning more DLC than initially intended, therefore upping the price of the season pass from $29.99 to $49.99 on March 1st, 2016. However, if you purchase the season pass before then, you’ll get the full selection of DLC throughout 2016 for no extra cost. Bethesda has stated that they’re planning more DLC throughout the duration of the year, estimating its value at $60.

The release dates and prices for the three batches of planned DLC are as follows:
